Range Member, Rachael Blondy

Haven’t you all been curious who is also taking class alongside you?!

Now a global platform, every month I will be highlighting a member within the Range community as a way to truly humanize each other.

This month’s member feature is someone who inspires me every single day.

Range Member, Rachael Blondy

Raised in North Carolina, with roots in the woods of Central Pennsylvania, she moved to Colorado for the mountains

I vividly remember grabbing a dish towel and laying out my mat in the sunny backyard in March 2020 for my first venture into Pilates. I ran back inside 55 minutes later, exclaiming to my roommates, "you have to try this!" I've been hooked ever since.

I work for a non-profit that builds healthy, equitable, and prosperous communities to improve people’s lives today and ensure a sustainable tomorrow by empowering local leaders that are working to create more livable places . We work shoulder-to-shoulder with community partners to envision the future they want, identify practical solutions to get them there and build civic capacity so they can tackle new challenges down the road.

You are an outdoor activity aficionado. Can you share how Range has impacted you and your activities?

My life revolves around how I can spend the most time outside. I moved to the mountains for skiing, but could never choose a favorite season. And I refer to seasons as "ski season", "bike season", "desert season", "backpacking season", and unfortunately "wildfire season". I know I'm a better daughter, friend and human when I get my time outside, so even when I'm stuck on my computer working, I'm scheming my next adventure or slipping out the door for an early morning dawn patrol activity.

I ran competitively from the ages 8-20 and looking back, I wish Range had been a part of my life all those years ago. It has supported me through mountaineering and ski adventures, I am a stronger, more confident and in control mountain biker and Range has taught me the benefits of slowing down and listening to my body. There are few things I now cherish more than lighting a candle and moving to The Origin as the sun rises. I now pay attention to the feedback my body gives me and can make small changes I've learned from Range that will allow me to continue running around the mountains.

As someone who has dealt with multiple meniscus tears and previous chronic SI joint and lower back pain, Range has bolstered my life!

I can't believe you're going to ask me this question and make me choose!

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

My first job out of college was leading overland camping safaris around Southern Africa. Whoever thought it was a good idea to give 22-year old me a stack of cash, everyone's passports and send me off to Zimbabwe in charge of 25 study abroad students must've really trusted my type-A personality.Since, I've held an assortment of jobs, including working a harvest at a Sonoma County winery and being a ranch hand on a sheep estancia in Patagonia. Just trying to fit as many lives into one as possible!
